Composition in the Twenty-First Century: Crisis and Change by Lynn Z. Bloom,
The essays in this book, stemming from a national conference of the same name, focus on the single subject required of nearly all college students - composition. Despite its pervasiveness composite arf and its significance, composition has on unstable status within the curriculum. Writing programs composite arf and writing faculty are besieged by academic, political, composite arf and financial concerns that have not been well understood or addressed. At many institutions, composition functions paradoxically as both the gateway to academic success composite arf and as the gatekeeper, reducing access to academic work composite arf and opportunity for those with limited facility in English. Although writing programs are expected to provide services that range from instruction in correct grammar to assisting - or resisting - political correctness, expanding programs composite arf and shrinking faculty get caught in the crossfire. The bottom line becomes the firing line as forces outside the classroom determine funding composite arf and seek to define what composition should do. In search of that definition, the contributors ask composite arf and answer a series of specific composite arf and salient questions: What implications - intellectual, political, composite arf and institutional - will forces outside the classroom have on the quality composite arf and delivery of composition in the twenty-first century? How will faculty composite arf and administrators identify composite arf and address these issues? What policies composite arf and practices ought we propose for the century to come? This book features sixteen position papers by distinguished scholars composite arf and researchers in composition composite arf and rhetoric; most of the papers are followed by invited responses by other notable compositionists. In all, twenty-five contributors approach composition from a wide variety of contemporaryperspectives: rhetorical, historical, social, cultural, political, intellectual, economic, structural, administrative, composite arf and developmental.

Composition-Rhetoric: Backgrounds, Theory, and Pedagogy by Robert J. Connors,

Composition-Rhetoric: Backgrounds, Theory, and Pedagogy by Robert J. Connors,
Composition-Rhetoric is a story of the people who have studied composite arf and taught composition in American colleges since the early nineteenth century. It shows where many of the practices composite arf and assumptions about writing that today's teachers use come from, composite arf and it translates what our theories composite arf and techniques of teaching have said over time about our attitudes toward students, language, composite arf and life. Like all rhetorics through history, Robert J. Connors asserts, American composition-rhetoric derived from human needs, fears, composite arf and desires. He locates the beginning of a new rhetorical tradition in the mid-nineteenth century, when America's burgeoning managerial composite arf and professional classes demanded increased literacy skills. From there, he discusses the theoretical composite arf and pedagogical innovations of the last two centuries as the result of historical forces, social needs, composite arf and cultural shifts. Among these are the rise of social classes composite arf and the demand for formal correctness, the development of the university system composite arf and scholarly fields, the evolution of the textbook, composite arf and the establishment of women's colleges composite arf and coeducational institutions. Connors breaks the history of composition-rhetoric into several distinct eras. The early American period (1800-1860) taught students both oral composite arf and written discourse. In the postwar period (1860-1885), scores of competing new ideas were put forward to solve the problems of teaching writing. The consolidation period (1885-1910) tested those new ideas in the first waves of compulsory writing courses. The post-1910 modern period of composition-rhetoric was a period of relative stasis that is usually associated with the pejorative uses of the term "current-traditional rhetoric". Themodern period lasted through 1960 or so, after which its tenets were challenged composite arf and informed by a new discipline, composition studies, the defining characteristic of the contemporary world of composition-rhetoric.

Composite order - The composite order is a mixed order, combining the volutes of the Ionic order with the leaves of the Corinthian order. The composite volutes are larger, however, and the composite order also has echinus with egg-and-dart ornamentation between the volutes.

Composite type - In computer science, composite types are datatypes which can be constructed in a programming language out of that language's primitive types and other composite types. The act of constructing a composite type is known as composition.

Composite armour - Composite armour is a type of vehicle armour consisting of layers of different material such as metals, plastics, ceramics or air. Most composite armours are lighter than their all-metal equivalent, but instead occupy a larger volume for the same resistance to penetration.
